Beacon Completes Project in South Korea
TEWKSBURY, MA - The Beacon Group of Tewksbury, Massachusetts recently completed a highly
specialized material handling solution for a nuclear waste processing facility in
South Korea. This international project included custom conveyance of radioactive
waste drums thru a complex series of inspection steps. The sophisticated
inspection equipment was designed and built by VJ Inspection systems of East
Haven, CT. Testing included dosimeter analysis, high energy X-ray, compressive
strength and photographic archiving of all radiological waste. Titan was selected
to provide the conveyor system. www.titanconveyors.com
Four (4) extreme duty rail car systems were deployed to move bulk items. One (1)
of the rail car systems transported a large rotary turntable with a 10 ton capacity.
Twin multi ton cranes were commissioned www.capcocrane.com to load and
unload the conveyor system. Cranes were also utilized to manipulate a wide array
of container sizes, shapes and weights and therefore a unique "fail safe" grappling
device was engineered to eliminate the need for tooling changes. Precision
weighing of all items manipulated by the cranes was also part of the specification.
All systems had to be operated from a remote room via Closed Circuit TV
and customized human / machine interfaces.
The Beacon Group provides highly specialized and traditional material handling solutions throughout the USA and beyond.
