The Beacon Group Assists The Greater Boston Food Bank With New Facility

BOSTON – The Greater Boston Food Bank is building a new distribution center to meet the growing need for food assistance in eastern Massachusetts . Slated for completion in the winter of 2009, the new 117,000-square-foot facility will enable The Food Bank to distribute up to 50 million pounds of food annually to help end hunger in its service area.

The Beacon Group (TBG) is proud that it has been an integral part of this important project. TBG assisted The Food Bank and its architect – Chan Krieger Sieniewicz – in the design and layout of the new, automated salvage area. Additionally, TBG was awarded the contract to implement the storage system within the new warehouse.

In a recent statement, TBG President Peter Martin said, " We are very excited and fortunate to be working with The Greater Boston Food Bank. It's not everyday when we have the opportunity to perform services for an organization that does so much good work for the community at large. Upon completion of this project, The Food Bank will have the ability to distribute food in a more efficient and effective manner. The new facility is located across the street from The Food Bank's current facility in the Newmarket section of Boston .
