CASE STUDY: RETAIL

BACKGROUND
One of the largest mail order clothing retailers in the country approached us looking for assistance in their warehouse storage design.  The client believed they were spending far too much money on off-site storage; considering they owned more than 100,000 square feet of building space.

CHALLENGE
The customer needed to reevaluate their existing facilities to determine where they could bring product ‘back in’ to eliminate the need for off site storage.

SOLUTION
In concert with their engineering staff, The Beacon Group developed a system that would allow them to bring their product back ‘in house’.  The first step was to clear any areas of the facility that were not being used to their maximum density.  The next step was to automate areas that were inefficient.  A vertical reciprocating conveyor (VRC) was implemented, which allowed the customer to get product to the pick areas faster and safer.  Additionally, we redesigned their current storage system to increase pallet storage.  The combination of these modifications vastly improved operational flow and precious facility ‘real estate’.

RESULTS
The completion of this massive overhaul of their existing facilities resulted in our client saving millions of dollars in leased space.  By engineering a storage system that fully utilized their building capacity the client completely eliminated the need to lease expensive 3rd party space.
