CASE STUDY: HIGH TECH

BACKGROUND
The largest distributor of medical imaging equipment, supplies, accessories and service in the United States has been a Beacon Group customer since we opened our doors.

CHALLENGE
Over the past eighteen (18) months they have made several acquisitions, and in doing so, ended up with ‘redundant’ distribution centers in certain markets.  The issue that the client faced was they were leasing (2) facilities that distributed the same product into the same geographic area. Obviously this became an area of concern as they were spending excess dollars on building leases as opposed to putting those funds into improving their bottom line. They decided in these scenarios that it would be best to terminate existing leases and find one site that could accommodate the merge of two distribution centers into one.

SOLUTION
The Beacon Group was contracted to assist the customer in this arduous process.  They had an aggressive schedule for ‘transforming’ their distribution operations and The Beacon Group was asked to handle several major components to this undertaking.  The Beacon Group has worked hand in hand with the client to implement eleven (11) “new distribution centers that range from Boston, MA to Fresno, CA to date.  Specifically, we performed the following services to date;

• Assisted with site selection for “new” distribution centers
• Design of the material handling system for each site
• Procurement and installation of material handling system
• Dismantling and disposing, selling, or relocation of existing systems
• Permit services for each site

RESULTS
This consolidation has helped to save the client more that one million dollars by doing away with redundant space and workforce in the same market.
